Migration
Research Through Practice Final Projectwetware component
1. By combining the existing art, craft and design skills within each interdisciplinary group, formulate a practice-led research proposal which investigates a theme of research significance beyond art, craft and design practice. (= Wetware component).
This part of the assignment was interpreted by our group to mean the following: one component of the final project had to incorporate an exisiting art, craft or design skill. We have done this in two ways:
a) We conducted a series of interviews on the subject of migration as the first part of our research into visualizations of migration through art practice. These interviews constitute an existing conceptual art skill and method, that of filming people and using the footage as visualization of theme in artwork.
b) We constructed a boat using existing craft skills as the second part of our research. This practice relates to our overall research in that thousands of people use rudimentary materials to make their own vessels to migrate across bodies of water every year, thus we symbolically mirrored their use of craft skill as well as employing our own.
